Sierra Nevada CD-ROM

This is an unsolicited testimonial for the Sierra Nevada CD-ROM, by Mountain Images and Wilderness Press (the wonderful hiking guide people).

The initial product was a multimedia MS-Windows CD-ROM with over 2700 color images and 2000 miles of trails, from Desolation Wilderness to Golden Trout Wilderness and everywhere in between. I've been having a blast with this thing, "hiking" over places that I've already been to, and others I've only heard about and will go to later. The High Sierra Trail is awesome, for example. You can also assemble your own routes, from trails provided. There are a few glitches, but overall it has a superb user interface.

Sierra newbies and wannabes should get this. Get it for your grampa, if he is always telling you how the JMT was in '54, and has no hope of ever seeing it again.

Note: An update was released, doubling the number of images and adding more trails. The software was also divided into two disks, North and South.
